I may be "tragic" in your book, but studies show that if my bag is lost/misplaced, I've got a lot better chance of getting it back. They've found that having information identifying your airline on your bag significantly improves your chance of getting your bag back. Also, my airline of choice typically knows where I am, and regardless has all of my contact information.
1. Purchase cute Cavallini Art Tag, I have the pretty one with a picture of an ocean liner's bow
2. Pry off the back, remove pre-printed blank address card
3. Insert business card (bc its safer to have business address on your luggage than a home address, although YMMV)
4. Affix to bag
I'm pretty sure that's going to get my bag back to me, although an even better security trick that I have is to never check it
