Very much depends on the tone and way this is conveyed. Aman has been exceptionally generous in the past and even today under certain GMs. YMMV given the pressure from corporate to "deliver" (yes, really). But in our past few Aman stays, generosity set the tone which ended up being beneficial for both sides - so it still happens (and when they're not busy selling 800 USD Advent Calenders with perfume samples). What newbie sales "types" at Aman don't understand is that guests (myself atleast) tend to spend more when they are generous ... more boutique, spa, etc.!
Sometimes helps having a good agent who can negotiate rates and benefits, so you can be the innocent victim while they work to add some perks.
