That said. You could fly, get a rental car etc all without handing over ID. Rental car company is usually happy with a QR code - and TSA allows you to put the card into the scanner yourself (actually usually make you do it yourself)

That said, I grew up in Europe and I am less scared of anyone asking to touch anything of mine ;-)
Really? I can't remember the last time the front desk did not ask to have my ID and credit card when I checked in?
