AA has had those carts at DFW for decades. There are many other airports with long walks between gates, but only AA at DFW specializes in providing these carts to the general public. You don't need a legitimate medical reason to use them. Lazy people use them. It's like a tram -- just wait for one to show up, flag them down, and hop on.
I find them irritating, because the drivers think that they have the right of way. They honk at people to get out of their way, yet they can go much faster than a normal walking speed.
If you have to go to a different terminal, the carts will not help. You will still have to take the SkyLink train. The carts were helpful in the 80's when AA operated out of terminals 2E and 3E (today's A and C). I really do not understand why those stupid carts are still there. Houston doesn't have the carts, so it's not a statewide Texas laziness thing.
