I have never had a hotel front desk not handle my ID and credit card.
Fraud prevention. The fraudsters are smart now and can actually print out ID’s and credit cards. By handling the ID they can actually check for the holograms that most states now imbed in their drivers licenses.
You shove your ID in my face and you most definitely would find your reservation canceled and asked to leave the property. If you refused, I’d be calling the police, which at that point you could be considered trespassing. I do not own a hotel nor mange one, but I do own vacation rentals and I ask for a copy of the ID at the time of booking, too many scam artists out there now that are booking, stay, then lie and say it’s not them, etc.
I bet if someone skimmed your credit card and used a fake ID to book a hotel room to stay in that you would be throwing a fit that they did not do everything they could have to prevent it.
