But what about DUB--LHR-JFK all on 1 ticket with less than 24hrs in the UK, that would be £0 UK APD, as you are deemed to depart from DUB, hence avoiding UK APD totally, compared with booking the exact same flights as 2 separate redemptions which would attract UK APD on the LHR-JFK segment.
