And yes, the extension of ex-YQR to PHX and LAS flights to the summer is a good thing. I have been on both the LAS and PHX flights out of YQR and they have been full and quite expensive too compared to connecting in YYC.
Although you are already airside you need to exit, re-clear security, confirm if you have any checked bags and then customs - it is redundant and the process is a total disaster. YYC blames CATSA, CATSA blames YYC.
