So I have an international AA award round trip ticket booked. I also booked a separate return flight (alternate date). We’ve decided we need to use the alternate date return flight so we need to cancel just the return leg of the round trip.

Is it possible to do this or would we have to cancel the whole round trip and rebook the outbound leg?

If that’s the case, what about cancelling the return leg after arriving? Are there any issues with cancelling a return leg of a round trip ticket after arriving from the outbound leg?

I don’t want to have to fully cancel the r/t and rebook because both flights are more expensive now. Just trying to see what our best option is here. Thanks!
