In my experience, a "virtual card" is not an absolute guarantee every single time. Usually its offered but not always and if not offered in the moment, to my knowledge there is no way to get it.
I mean, I hate to rub salt in a wound, as you probably are already thinking this, but generally I'd never wait to apply that close to the deadline of a major bill needing to be paid for reasons just exactly such as this.

Oh dude, I know. I thought I was going to need the spend elsewhere but basically last minute didn’t need it. So this is the result. I can get an extension but didn’t want to deal with that.

The agent said they wouldn’t do anything short of 48 hours. I’ll call in the morning. Maybe they can overnight. If not, I’ll get an extension for bill. Another phone call but worth it bc will knock out the entire spend in one charge.

Agreed, I'm not sure why one would need to wait 48 hrs. The workflow kicks off pretty much instantly upon approval and frankly Platinum cards often arrive on your doorstep in 48 hrs so they obviously have the capability

I was juggling too much and believed the agent lol. I’ll call in the AM. I really shouldn’t have cut this close but didn’t realize I would have this opportunity for big spend on a new card. Long story.
