IHG Dynamic Pricing more "dynamic" than most
I have status with multiple hotel groups.
I also obsessively recheck pricing.
While rates may always change up or down, typically they will rise(or stay the same) as one gets within weeks of the arrival date. I don't think I've ever seen prices drop within 2 weeks of a Hilton stay, for instance.
IHG on the other hand, frequently drops prices within the last 4 days, obviously to clear unsold rooms. If the hotel is close to selling out, prices will often stay where they were weeks before, while at other brands they will rise, sometimes very significantly.
As such I find myself cancelling and rebooking far more with IHG than anyone else.
For instance, for an upcoming weekend stay, 4 days prior to arrival rooms booked last week for $365/night dropped to $215. Similarly a points stay two weeks ago dropped from 40,000/night to 26,000/night.
Obviously I cancelled and rebooked to take advantage of the savings.
But it left me wondering, how many actually check just prior to a stay? If you aren't, you could be leaving significant amounts of money on the table.
Anyone else in the habit of checking, cancelling and rebooking to take advantage of price drops?
