I'm in the same boat ... trying to fly from China to London for August 2024 ... direct flight award availability on BA Metal was showing a week ago on AA.com (and for weeks on either side of my chosen date), but now only option is taking Etihad through AUH.
  • Called the EP desk and they could see the BA flight, but also only saw milage award on Ethiad.
  • Interesting enough, the BA direct is not showing up on AA.com if I try to book without miles ... get the 'Something happened' error message.
My money is on some kind of Glitch. Will keep checking and will report back if I see it come available
