64 people lose their jobs in Bora Bora. The mixed commercial court has declared the liquidation of the 2 Sofitel hotels, reveal our colleagues from Tahiti Infos. Establishments which were to be taken over by the Royal group, led by Christina Auroy.

The latter was awarded, last April, the takeover of the hotels by the same mixed commercial court. But in July, the court of appeal overturned the decision, finding that the offer from the American group Arkan Hermes Centauri, the initial unsuccessful candidate, had not been sufficiently studied.

Tita Vaetua, O Oe To Oe Rima union representative, does not agree with this decision. She is demanding compensation after 3 years of sick leave.

The Sofitels of Bora Bora sold to the Royal group, 50 employees taken over in 2025

Tahiti, April 25, 2023 – Among the different groups vying for the takeover of the two Sofitels in Bora Bora, the mixed commercial court on Monday recorded the choice of the Royal group headed by the daughter of businessman Dominique Auroy, Christina Teihotaata, who already owns the Royal Bora Bora. The group plans to take over 50 employees by 2025.

The Mixed Commercial Court (TMC) on Monday recorded the takeover of the two establishments of Samoan businessman Frederick Grey, the Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island and the Sofitel Marara Beach Resort, by the Royal group which is managed by the daughter of businessman Dominique Auroy, Christina Teihotaata, and which already owns the Royal Tahitien and the Royal Huahine.

During a hearing which took place on March 13, the TMC declared three of the six offers to take over the two hotels inadmissible. He had accepted the proposals of the Royal group but also those of the City and Redcore groups while rejecting those of the American group Arkans Hermes Centauri, the Qatari group Doha properties and the Ogenes group. If the Doha properties and Redcore groups have since withdrawn, the TMC therefore recorded on Monday the takeover of the two establishments by the Royal group which already owns the Royal Bora Bora and which is committed to taking on around fifty employees.

Extension of 80 rooms

Contacted on Tuesday, the lawyer of the Royal group, Me Jean-Michel Vergier, welcomed this decision of the TMC which chose “the most reasonable offer, the easiest to make and therefore the most solid ”. According to the lawyer, the takeover of the two hotels will allow his client to make “an extension of 80 rooms” in the three-star category of the Royal Bora Bora which already offers rooms in this category. Me Jean-Michel Vergier also confirms that of the “two structures”, the group will already take on 19 employees. In November 2023, 16 other employees will be taken on. Finally, “within two years”, when the work on the Sofitel Marara Beach Resort site is completed, 15 other employees will be taken over, or 50 jobs in 2025. Remember that the two Sofitels in

Bora Bora, closed for more than two years, as well as the holding company holding them had been placed in receivership by the TMC last September and October. With the former Méridien de Punaauia, the Tahiti Ia Ora Beach Resort, these three establishments constituted the last hotels of the former empire of the wealthy Samoan businessman, Frederick Grey, in fenua. Note also that the Redcore group has made an offer for this last establishment and that a next hearing before the TMC has been set for May 11.
