To be even more pedantic - I have seen some style guides which suggest acronyms that can be 'spoken' should be written with an initial capital, while those which have to be spelt out should be all capitals.

But I have seen breaches of this in IT, e.g. NTFS and FAT filesystems (not getting in to GIF)...
