On my last 2 long hauls, both in 1K on a CW 777, I was asked last. I'm gold.
The crew member taking the order started at 1A and walked back, taking orders left and right, turned left in the middle galley and then walked forward. I was last to be asked. For the first meal service there was only 1 option remaining from the 3. On the second meal service, 2 of the 3 remained.
On the second long haul, similar order taking, but only 1 item sold out for first meal and all available for second meal.
On a recent short haul flight, similarly, was seated in the last row of CE, was asked last and only 1 item remained. Didn't care that time as it was a short flight.
In CE, the service protocol is to serve front to back, so unfortunately if you are at the back you are unlikely to get much choice. In CW, they should be prioritising by status, and if they don't seem like they are doing this, it is perhaps worth asking the CC member if they have followed the service protocol of prioritising meals based on status. If it doesn't seem like they have, then put in a complaint to BA, perhaps they might then remind staff what the SOP is.
