If you are lucky enough to get the old my trips view (which is the only way to see the fare class and the waitlisted segments, with the new downgraded UI that functionality, along with much else, was taken away), it shows right there the status for each segment. If it's waitlisted, it's waitlisted, nothing to do. Only when it shows Status: Confirmed do you need to call and get it reticketed.
