That is certainly my experience.

Some crew do, some crew don't.

I put it in a similar pigeon hole as Steaks on a Plane: no harm in asking in a way that won't put the crew member in a difficult position (e.g., "I wonder if a G&T is available by any chance?"), graciously accepting the alternatives on offer if declined.
