The bus drops you off right at the hotel, but due to one way directions it is a short walk to the bus station for the return. We decided against a car, as we did our walking in the area, and cruising on the lake. Kegon Falls, the English and Italian embassy villa parks, and various temples ake for good walks.
I also want to take the spacia x for my stay next week. I assume you didn't get either of the Nikko passes? Was it also easy to get from the Tobu-Nikko station to the hotel? It looks like it's a 40-ish minute bus going up Iroha-zaka
