I suggest you talk to your corporate travel agent (we use AmEx) next time you're looking at a trip to see if there's a difference between one way tickets out and back versus round trip.
You'll be surprised at how many times it's the same price... I wouldn't book it this way if it was more expensive, and this is my 4th or 5th time booking this way this year...

I’ll share my most frequent route - SFO<>LHR. Once only D class fares are available on a flight or per fare rules if buying close-in, then I almost always find 2 x one way J/C/D fares close to price of roundtrip fare, save a few rounding dollars.
You will very rarely find that roundtrip Z or P class discount business fares are equivalent to two one ways, intentionally. Most Z and P have 30 day advanced purchase restrictions, and as such if I’m booking two weeks before flying the 2 x one way often works well.
