It is likely routing restrictions. QF flies SYD-HNL & FJ flies NAN-HNL. Both are available as awards. However, you cannot fly via the US Mainland on either, as an award. Similarly, you cannot fly from HNL to Alaska or the contiguous US, with or without a stopover, after arriving in HNL from SYD or NAN, on the same award.
