I also just saw on a separate trip, the flight from DFW to ALB has hot meals and you can choose. But nothing to select for the return flight the next morning. Note, there is only one flight per day each way on this route, and it just started in the last 30 days.
This isn't unusual. I fly to ABQ every so often. We'll have a hot meal ORD-ABQ but, in the morning, ABQ-ORD is a shelf stable option.
