I used to have to travel for my job at the airline and Midwest was so cheap internally that they wouldn't let us book confirmed seats on our own airline for company business travel. We were top of the standby list, though. We did always get on the plane though as those of us at HDQ could ride in the extra flight attendant jumpseats (of which there were always at least 2 extra due to the reduced staffing from fewer passenger seats). Fresh baked cookies combined with the smells surrounding being strapped to the tail cone exit jumpseat between the two aft lavs of an MD-80 for a whole redeye from LAX to MKE is just vomit-inducing.
