Yes, it's really a thing and has been for many years on many carriers. I believe it's in their contact, and it's a mandatory rest period unlike what you see on domestic flights.
Interesting! I'll admit I have flown way less than many of y'all.
I get it from a crew rest standpoint. It's more surprising to me from a security standpoint, especially in a post-9/11 aircraft. For as much as domestic flights are like, "Don't you even THINK about getting up to use the lav while the FO is taking a dump!!" 😂 I would have thought any and all crew meal and rest would be super secure and not just "Oh hey take this seat in business class."
