It's not been "chosen" this Friday - the national Italian strike day means it can't run. There are periods in the morning and evening where minimum service levels mean flights can still operate, hence why not all flights are cancelled - it's down to the scheduled timings. As for previous Fridays, I can't comment but it's certainly unfortunate.
