The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan, Indonesia [Master Thread]

What an experience of ups and downs at the RC Mega Kuningan - I ultimately liked it much more than I thought it would. Please note that I will include photos of both of my rooms at the end of this post for comparison purposes.

At this moment, the hotel seems to be operating two sets of rooms - one very dated with beds with thin or non-existent covers, and one brighter and newly freshened with plush bed covers. Okay, I can’t make generalizations on the state of the bed covers, but wow, room #2 sure did improve.

I booked on points and was offered breakfast for IDR 338K or club lounge access for IDR 600K (all plus tax and service charge). I ended up telling them to add breakfast, but this all became moot.

No Mayfair Suites were available, per the staff, so I ended up in a somewhat larger Grand King, which was called a Grand Studio. It had a large offshoot office with a bunch of empty space. While I was delivered what looked to be a very tasty chocolate cake and some chocolates, I was very disappointed in the overall look of the room and the thinness of the bed covers. Upon further inspection, I found a single live bug (don’t know what type) under one of the pillows. I quickly abandoned ship after taking a video.

The staff offered me Club Lounge access and either a lower floor room (ready in 10 minutes) or a higher-floor “newly renovated” room in the club section (ready in 30 minutes). I took the newly renovated room, which ended up much better than I expected due to the much nicer bed covers. The bathrooms in the rooms are the same design. The wait wasn’t an issue as I was escorted to the club for afternoon tea.

Unfortunately, the chocolate cake stayed in my old room, but my new room came with a bottle of the really good guava and ginger welcome drink that the staff noticed I liked significantly.

The rest of this review will focus on my experience in the Club Lounge and with the new Grand Club King I ended up in - here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Pros:
  • Ended up in a pretty corner room on the 25th floor (club accessible stairs on 24-26) with a lovely sunset view
  • Bed was very comfortable - plush covers, plush pillows, mattress definitely on the firm side but not in a bad way
  • Shower pressure was amazingly strong
  • Lounger couch was plush and comfortable
  • Lovely hot jamu in the lobby from 6-7 (along with a local percussionist), and the staff brought me over some tasty ginger candies
  • Staff was really quite friendly - easy problem solving, personable conversation, gave me some treats and local coffee based on conversation as a goodbye gift
  • Club Lounge was a nice offering
    • Tasty and extensive afternoon tea
    • Good guava juice
    • Nice salmon and potatoes au gratin at evening service
    • Good cheese omelet, pancakes, and hash browns at breakfast

Neutral:
  • Never asked about late checkout - I ended up leaving around 12 by choice

I would just book a Club Room here and make sure you get one that is renovated. Pacific Place definitely is more consistent with more over-the-top service, but I honestly liked the renovated room at Mega Kuningan a bit more. I still think Pacific Place is the better option overall, though.
