Personally I don’t think anyone should accompany the assistance customer unless there is some mental issues.
I'm looking forward to the Wilson James staff trying to communicate with my elderly relative who can't speak a word of English and has mobility issues. I hope you're aware that everyone's circumstances differ and are not neccesairly linked to mental health conditions.
Even BA always ensure that the carer is sat next to the passenger requiring special assistance... in my experience at least.
