Going OT now, but this happened to me so many times, that at certain airports I now ignore the requests to leave everything in the bag apart from the laptop.
Just too many occurrences where they first insist the electronics and cables and what-not are to stay in the bag, only to tell me off post-scan that I left them in the bag and they now have to redo the scan of separated bag and electronics.
