As said several times in the other threads: not a huge loss. Very few frequent traveller would book these through a 3rd channel.
I book a decent number of close-in and same-day hotel stays though AA’s loyalty point-earning portal since in the US the hotel elite benefits have devalued enough that I get more value earning airline miles/status.
They do not award a fixed number of miles per dollar, so it’s usually possible to recover 15% or so of the value in miles and then get an additional 10 miles per dollar for using their lounge access credit card to pay for the stay.
