A lot of these "temporary" reintroductions of border controls are just non-stop renewals of the "temporary" border controls. France is particularly guilty of this. I think covid slowed down their actual implementation of them.
Kinda dumb when France was only doing it on flights, and it was a flight from Frankfurt to the southwest, meanwhile you could drive to the French border in as much time and not go through any control.
Credit to Italy for just doing it for 10 days, but I guess we'll see how long it actually ends up being for.
