unless you plan to leave the airport, couldn't you simple "connect" to your next flight which is on the same plane? I've done it this way in SCL EZE FRA LHR SYD with no issues.
Not all airports let you "connect" without first going through Customs, but I'm pretty sure CUN does. It's been a long time since I did a direct turn there.
