Purchase Location can make a difference, at least on AA. I booked and ticketed an ex-EU AA/P (BA/T) fare yesterday that ended up being US$940 when pulled up and booked through AA US and over EUR1100 when pricing the exact same itinerary on the European websites.
Availability of fares also depends on the purchase location, just like inventory can depend on that. So on EF you might see e.g. K7/T7 for say FRA-LHR-JFK on BA (when set to USA origin) but K0/T0 (and instead E7 or W7) when using Germany as origin. Lets them do revenue management through both published fares and fare buckets.
But like others said, on the BA website you are almost always forced to book with the departure origin country, including its currency.
