JR Tokai, JR West, and JR Kyushu have announced that by Spring of 2024 there will be no smoking rooms on Shinkansen. Small walled off smoking room (a room with two or three people with ventilation preventing smoke from leaking out) is located in the Car no. 3 and Car no. 10 on Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama. JR will remove those smoking rooms on Shinkansen and by Spring of 2024 there will be no place to smoke on Shinkansen.
