Yeah, in BOS yesterday the biggest delay seemed to be passengers looking for whom they had to show their passport while the officer was yelling "you can keep your passport in your pocket" and fussing with how to use the machine that is literally just 'stand in front and look at it'. All in all the system works great but they could with a lot more extremely obvious signage while people get used to it.
