Quite the opposite. Better to leave later than earlier. Gates close strictly 10 mins before departure, and reach the gate at T-25, usually the queue is non existent*. It seems most people, understandably like to reach the gate quite early (most are without lounge access so may not have anywhere better to be) and getting there super early may or may not reduce your time in the queue - but certainly will prolong your time in the holding pen, aka the gate lounge.
* The main exception I've experienced is multi-gate security points where a flight is departing 1 hr later and thus hitting the peak for that flight. That's the only time I've experienced pseudo-priority, a quiet word to security pointing out you are on the flight leaving in 20 mins and not the one leaving in 1hr 20 mins, will usually allow you to queue-jump, unless the queue only really has about a dozen or less people in it.
