Ah I see we may need support help then. The rule we’re trying to do is waitlisting for premium cabin specifically on award tickets where the seat is confirmed in economy like we have, it it’s clearly spelled out in the rules and I’ve done it often in the past! Reporting from the page (link):
You may use miles for travel in United FirstŪ, United BusinessŪ or United PolarisŪ business class, even if the space is not available. In these cases, United Economy in the same award type must be confirmed, and the front cabin will be waitlisted. If the courtesy waitlist does not clear, it will expire 24 hours before itinerary departure, and you will automatically be added to the airport upgrade standby list upon check-in.
Spent about 5 hours with more than 10 agents/supervisors on the text over the last few days. Still no go...

Every single time they keep talking of upgrades on revenue tickets and just refuse to read or recognize the published policy on this at
https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/mil...ir-awards.html , which is not an upgrade but just waitlisting for what one has already paid for (long-haul segment confirmed and ticketed in I, short-haul UA segment in X).
I have copy and pasted that specific part to them countless times, they just refuse to read or recognize it. It's like they are immune to logic and United published policies and rules.
Edit: I guess there is no easy or straightforward way to get this done. Just HUACA, or CBACA (close browser and chat again), until you get through to someone competent. It just really wears you down after hours and hours of being fed utter nonsensical excuses for not following the published policy by supposed supervisors. I don't really care much about Y or J on a short 3 hour flight, but it's more about the principle of United not following its own published Award Air Travel Rules.
