I have to admit i never even thought to add an infant to a room search. Call it a newbie-dad-first-time-to Europe-with-a-baby mistake. We had already stayed at many hotels in NA and it was never an issue, so it didn't ever cross my mind.
I only realized to email and ask when i came across an article that discussed this issue. It was a learning experience for sure, and I'm thankful for my travel experience that allowed me to increase the odds in my favor.
My wife, on the other hand, was not quite as comfortable with my gamble
