Booking on Expedia, cancellation by BA, small refund so far - need advice
In hindsight, this has proven to be a mistake. Early August, as I was not able to make a booking on the Iberia and British Airways websites, I chose Expedia to book a mix of Iberia (LGW-MAD then MAD-FAO) and British Airways (FAO-LGW) flights under a single booking.
Two weeks before the initial outbound flight, British Airways cancelled the final inbound flight. As the replacement flight offered by Expedia was turning my three-day weekend into a one-day-and-a-quarter-of-a-day weekend, I opted to request a refund of the whole booking.
Thing is seven weeks later and after chasing twice Expedia after that initial refund request I have only been refunded £70 out of £530. Maybe I had the wrong idea but was expecting to be refunded at least the full price of the inbound flight cancelled by British Airways.
If you have been in a similar situation, would you be able to advise which following option is the most likely to result in a larger/full refund ?
- Request BA to step in. As stated on their website: "If you need further assistance obtaining a refund from your travel agent or tour operator, please contact us directly."
- Dispute the transaction with Amex as I had paid that Expedia booking with a BA Amex Premium Plus card
- Submit a claim to LV, my travel insurer
Note: I am UK-based.
