There are a huge slew of discounts for flights in Japan, the problems are a) finding information in English, b) sorting them all out and c) actually making the booking. But a few of the easy ones:

* If you're flying into Japan on JAL/ANA, you should be eligible for the Visit Japan domestic fares, Y12000/flight at last check. Definitely the best option if you qualify.
* Advance purchase tickets (Jp. maeuri) get you varying levels of discounts depending on how early you book: 14, 21 and 45 days in advance or something like that.
* You also get a small (10%) discount for booking a return flight.

There's also a number of "super-discount" (cho-wari) seats for advance bookings for unpopular flight times, but I'm not sure if Aomori is a busy enough destination to qualify for these.
