Because it's a cancellation under Article 5, it's UK261 that provides that the re-route must be offered. It's precisely why it applies.

BA will have to put up some reasonable alternative, and provide duty of care if an overnight becomes necessary, but with only two direct flights across all airlines their options are pretty limited.

CX own this ticket, so they need to act on behalf of the OP in the CX forum thread by talking to BA via the onwworld liaison desk if necessary.
