From memory the membership year will reset from the date when you upgrade to the BAPP product. So in your example if you did this on 01MAY24 then you'd have up to 30APR25 to hit the spend targets in order to trigger your 241 voucher. Your "member since" date however carries over from card product to card product so from a tenure perspective Amex knows you've been a previous customer prior to you taking the BAPP.
This isn't what happened to me. I even called up to question and the call centre operative said that my year would remain the same.
I had the BA blue card which had a membership year ending in February. Since Feb I had only spent ~£800 on the card. I upgraded last month and the spend by date remained as February. I enquired by telephone if they could change this for me, but was informed that the only way to cancel the card (in which case the "progress tracker") would be reset, and then reapply. In the end I decided to stick with the card and just bring forward my expenditure for 2024.
As an aside, has the "progress tracker" disappeared from anyone else's Amex app? It's still there on their website but missing from the App for both me and my other half.
