You get guaranteed 50K every year, so at the start of each year you get the opportunity to choose that year's 50K benefits whether or not you ever fly.
One change with the new program though is that previously IKK was tied to status without additional requirements, and now it requires spend. So you're eligible for the priority rewards as 1MM/2MM/3MM, but you won't get any if you don't hit the spend thresholds.
Similar to e.g. Marriott Lifetime Platinum / Titanium where you only get the SNA (suite night awards) if you hit 50 and 75 nights.

Hoogaar 's question got me thinking, once you hit MM/2MM/3MM, you maintain 50K, 75K or SE for "life". Assuming your heirs never say anything to AC but someone has access to your account for redemptions, how does AC figure out when your life has ended and hence terminates your benefit?
They probably don't have to worry about this too much for another decade or two. For 2MM/3MM, is lifetime for a friend confirm to be their lifetime or is it your lifetime? I'm assuming former since you nominate once and can't change it?
