Calling is option 1, the agent should be able to help, but that would involve waiting.
Option 2 avoids the call centre - You can purchase new seats, and wait for the refund to come through from the changed flight (it should be processed automatically, but if it does not appear, file request through online form).
I purchased seats on two aeroplan redemption AC flights. Unfortunately we cannot go to the trip due to an urgent family matter.
When I clicked on cancelling the flights, it listed the purchased seats as non-refundable. So it looks like I don't get the money back for the purchased seats?!
