I noticed on the SQ website that there is a page for requesting a refund due to medical or compassionate reasons.

Has anyone had successful experience with this? Otherwise I think I may have made a very expensive mistake!
Yes, you can do that - but you will need a letter from the doctor saying that you were unfit to fly. IME, SQ has been pretty accomodating in offering full refudns, both for cash and miles, when there is evidence of a medical issue.
