On average, DL main cabin international tickets are $170 more expensive than KLM light.
The main differences are that Delta main cabin is upgradable (free) to C+ and no seat selection fees. However, if you have status (I'm a DL plat), KLM does not charge seat selection fees and will offer a free C+ upgrade (on KLM metal) if available. (Air France only preferred economy is free.). On DL metal preferred economy is the best you get with KLM light. (I just returned from Spain where I was C+ on KLM metal and preferred economy on Delta operated flights.)
So, to get the $100 coupon I have to spend $170 more and then to use it another $170. That's an additional $340. Lop off the $100 coupon and it's still $240 in the hole.
Yeah, right.
For the premium customer that Delta is now marketing to, booking a J international trip via AmEx Travel IAP will yield a greater than instant $100 savings and receive 5x MR points. This compared to booking via Delta who will not issue the $100 eCredit until after the flights are completed and at best is 3x SkyMiles.
