I think the A320neo has similar per-trip costs, but at carries more passengers compared to the A319ceo and similar/better runway performance. The per-seat costs are lower for the A32N in most cases.

COVID ripped-up BA's fleet plan quite badly, which has been a stay of execution for the A319s and G-MIDx A320s, which I think should have been retired from the BA fleet by now.
They are missing ~30 747s from Heathrow and all of the G-DBCx and G-MIDx A320s were at Gatwick. Apparently the A321ceo has very expensive charges out of Heathrow and that was part of the reason they were amongst the last to be brought back from storage and quickly sent to Euroflyer to join the 10 G-GATx's.
