In fact, if you had a 777HD in economy, and downgraded to 757 economy, that is generally a positive change, or 777HD in business middle seats to 757 business, that may also be a positive change.
SFO to EWR on a 777. We booked Premium Economy. When they switched it to a 757, they downgraded us to economy (seats weren't even in Economy Plus, but I could have fixed that. Seems to me they should have upgraded us to business, but that's just me.
