That is indeed a nuisance as I noted myself. The flight in October directly booked with SV gives a stopover visa for 23 Euro (admin costs) and a free hotel. Even though it is a 9 hour stop. An open jaws in November with an OTA since I could not buy it in Euros on SV - nothing possible.
There are quite a few threads on TA about this, it's simple to book (hotel and visa) just need to understand what to do and how to do it. Someone posted the link on another thread. Some of my comments are in there too!
I didn't know I had to book direct to be eligible this is one of the reasons I bought it and for the price. But there is a way around it now and we won't need a hotel. I think if you got the fare for a decent price just see it as a multi trip holiday. My friend would never do so many stops but I think it's worth it. We fly in a few weeks and are flying on to Japan, not booked hotel in TUN yet or anywhere. First stop getting this visa for JED.
Their tourism minister needs some advice regarding their free not free visa, but it better than paying £100 or more
