The way the official policy reads, since your destination is outside the US, then you would follow the 60 minute guidance for bag check. Are you asking this for pre-planning purposes, or did you encounter an issue already where they didn't accept the baggage hand off?
Thank you for your response. Can you direct me to where that is differentiated? I've heard so much conflicting information but have been unable to find an official rule. It is something that already happened. Whether it is Domestic or Int'l is really moot since we met the Int'l deadline as well; I just wanted to know what I'm talking about. as I fight this. We attempted to check our bags more than 60 minutes in advance. Had they accepted our bags, we would have been at our gate nearly a full hour before departure - well within the 30 minute gate rule. Their reason for not accepting our bags was that we did not check them at least 90 minutes in advance. I travel frequently and had never heard of this 90 minute rule. I had a cruise the next day and they had no other seats available before the embarkation deadline the following afternoon so I was forced to spend $2300 on 2 one-way tickets. And that was only the beginning of our nightmare. It ended up taking us 31 hours to get there. At any rate, once I got that settled, I looked up AA's Conditions of Carriage and nowhere does it say you need to check bags 90 minutes in advance that I could find. They list 60 and 45 for Int'l and Domestic, respectively. They do have a 90 minute check-in time, but they specifically said our BAGS needed to be checked in by then, and we had checked in online the night before anyway. Incidentally, 2 or 3 days prior, I received an email that the flight was overbooked. It just seemed like a convenient excuse for them to use this made up rule to their advantage. In retrospect, I could have (should have?) cut the luggage tags from my luggage, abandoned it and purchased new clothes in the 24+ hours I would have had before my embarkation. I would have spent a WHOLE lot less with a WHOLE LOT less stress and frustration.
