If you have a flight to catch I would stay closer to the airport. Or, have you thought of staying for your first nights (I think you mentioned a multi-night stay) in Buena Park, and then moving for the last night to the Renaissance LAX? The Renaissance is within walking distance of the car rental places. So last time I dropped off luggage at the hotel, returned my rental car, and walked back to the hotel. It has a nice lounge (for the USA) and a free shuttle to LAX, so no stress in the morning.
