Partner/contract lounge access for non-Flying Club pax with STE+ status flying VS
I was meaning to post this a while back but forgot... When flying VS from MIA to LHR in economy back in May this year, I knew there was not a VS Clubhouse but had read on the Virgin website that they use the LATAM lounge instead - however it mentioned this was for their Upper Class passengers only. The same was told to me at check-in, however I pointed out that as a Skyteam Elite Plus (AF/KLM Flying Blue Gold) passenger flying with a Skyteam member on an international flight, I was entitled to a lounge. They checked but reconfirmed that I couldn't use the LATAM lounge, without giving any alternatives, so I left it. Fortunately, there was a Delta Sky Club at MIA which let me in no problem, so on this occasion I was ok.
However, it got me thinking, what rights do STE+ customers have where there is no Virgin/Skyteam airline lounge and the only provision Virgin makes with contract lounges is for Upper Class passengers (and possibly their own Flying Club Gold members), which I believe is particularly true in the Caribbean where it's all contract lounges with no SkyTeam-affiliated alternatives? Do STE+ members from other programmes like me go without any lounge access?
