probably if you try the instant upgrade you will receive an error message, they won’t charge and won’t upgrade you. I recently lived the same story, finally I bid and win the upgrade ( at higher price , instant upgrade was lower)
I gave it a shot and it looks like the fixed price instant upgrade (much cheaper than the lowest bid) has been successfully processed.
Now I ended up with two flights LX138 displayed in my reservation: one originally booked in Premium Economy and one (upgraded) in Business Class. Both flights are "confirmed".
